I swear by this recipe as garlic is a natural antibiotic; my chicken noodle soup will “cure whatever ails you.”  That’s just my word; not doctor prescribed, of course...

This not only warms you on a cold day, but it warms your heart like a good comfort food should.  For sore throats, go heavy on the cayenne pepper!  It really does help!

  • 3 to 5 chicken breasts (boneless, skinless is what I use; it is the healthiest)
  • 14 cups water
  • 1 can chicken broth
  • 1 onion, peeled but not cut
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • ½ of one lemon
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • dash of salt (not too much)
  • dash of cayenne pepper
  • dash of Sazón Completa
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 6 carrots, peeled and sliced
  • 6 celery stalks, washed and sliced
  • 3 cups egg noodles
  • ½ cup white wine

In a large pot, place chicken, onion, lemon and seasonings, then add the water and chicken broth on top.  Cook for 30 minutes, then remove the chicken, onion, lemon and bay leaves.  Return soup to boil, and add carrots, cooking for about 5 minutes.  Next add the celery, and cook for 5 to 7 minutes longer.  Add noodles and follow directions on package for cooking time, usually 6 to 8 minutes.  After noodles are cooked, add chicken (cubed) and white wine.  Cook for another minute or two, to heat the chicken and add any seasoning you may need.
