BISCUIT DOUGHNUTS

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons cinnamon
  • powdered sugar
  • milk/orange juice (either is added to the powdered sugar to make a glaze.  If using orange juice, add some orange zest over the doughnuts/doughnut holes!)
  • vanilla
  • 1 large can of biscuits
  • oil for frying (peanut, canola or vegetable)

Heat oil in a large pot; cast iron skillet is best or a deep fryer if you have one.  For doughnut holes, either quarter each biscuit or use the cap from your oil to cut holes out of the biscuits.  When your oil is hot (350 degrees) drop the doughnuts or holes into the hot oil.  For doughnuts, it will take maybe 25 to 30 seconds on each side, total.  For the holes, maybe 10 to 15 seconds.  Remove from the oil and place on paper towel lined plates.  Toss with the cinnamon sugar mixture or a powdered sugar glaze.  For variations, you can add an orange glaze or try a lemon,  lime/key lime glaze or even chocolate drizzled over the holes and a chocolate frosting on top of doughnuts.  Let the kids add sprinkles if desired, and you have homemade doughnuts; super fast and inexpensive!
