Having lived in South Florida for two and a half years, I truly fell in love with the Cuban culture. This is a wonderful treat for after dinner, and the addition of cinnamon really steps it up, in my opinion:
Cafe Con Leche with Cinnamon
- 4-6 Tablespoons espresso
- 2 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
In your stovetop espresso maker (or you could make espresso in your regular coffee pot), place water in the bottom. Pack your espresso into the center mixture, then place the espresso maker over your burner. Leave the lid in the "open" position, just until the espresso begins to brew and bubble over. At that point, close the lid. Meanwhile, heat your milk in a small saucepan, over medium-high heat. Add cinnamon and gently stir. Once the espresso has brewed, pour the cinnamon-milk mixture into your mug; then add the espresso. Remember, you will want a 2/3 milk mixture to 1/3 espresso mixture for a "true" Cafe con Leche.
