Serves 4-6

  • 2 (8 ounce) packages low-fat cream cheese, softened at room temperature
  • 4 Granny Smith apples, sliced
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 8 cinnamon apple graham crackers, crushed into crumbs
  • Extra homemade caramel sauce for topping (optional, and recipe below)

Stir cream cheese together in a bowl, then set aside. In a large, non-stick skillet, melt butter and brown sugar. Add sliced apples to the butter and brown sugar mixture. Add the ground cinnamon and stir until the apples are softened. Pour brown sugar mixture (not the apples, just the sauce) into the cream cheese mixture. Stir well. In a mason jar, wine glass or parfait glass, add the graham cracker crumbs to the bottom, then add the cream cheese-caramel mixture, then top with the apples. If desired, top with heated homemade caramel sauce and repeat layers.

  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

In a small saucepan, combine brown sugar, butter and whipping cream and cook over low heat until smooth, whisking to combine. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. If desired, you may add 1/4 teaspoon sea salt to this mixture to make it a salted caramel mixture.
