Creating recipes for special people is absolutely my favorite thing to do! This German Chocolate Pie is perfect for Valentine's Day, and created for a very special friend, Mack Hannah. 


Created in honor of my former pastor and dear friend, Mack Hannah; this German Chocolate Pie is easy and delicious. Because Mack is attacking and fighting his cancer the way he attacks life ... with complete joy; it seemed appropriate that I name this pie, "Mack Attack" German Chocolate Pie. It is German Chocolate, per Mack's request, for his sweet wife, Pattie, to make for him. Hope you all enjoy!

3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
2 whole eggs
4 egg yolks
2 cups whole milk
4 ounces German chocolate bar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon coconut extract
1 1/2 cups shredded coconut
1/2 cup chopped pecans

1 deep dish pie crust, baked

homemade whipped cream for topping

Stir together sugar, flour, eggs and milk in a saucepan and cook over medium heat, whisking constantly for about 10 minutes.  The consistency should be thick, like pudding.  It will begin to bubble (but do not boil), then add the chocolate and whisk or stir until the chocolate is melted.  Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and coconut extract, then the shredded coconut and pecans.  Pour into pie crust.  Chill for at least four hours. Serve with homemade whipped cream, and enjoy!


1 cup heavy whipping cream
3 Tablespoons powdered sugar

Chill your bowl and beaters (or whisk) in the freezer until ready to mix. In cold bowl, beat together the heavy whipping cream, then add the powdered sugar. Beat until soft peaks form. Store in an airtight container in your refrigerator.
