This is the recipe my mom uses, and the recipe I remember eating every summer as a little girl.  Peach ice cream, strawberry, you name it.  You can do banana, or banana and chocolate chunk … you can take out the fruit and add anything else you would like, too!

  • 4 cups Heavy Whipping Cream
  • 2 cups Half and Half
  • 2 cups Milk (Whole Milk is best)
  • 2 ⅓ cups sugar
  • 4 cups fruit
  • 2 Tablespoons vanilla (you could add banana or coconut extract, for example, if you wanted to flavor this)

Scald the milk first, then remove from heat.  Next add the sugar, heavy whipping cream, half and half and vanilla.  Mix all together in a large bowl and pour into your ice cream freezer.  Last, add the fruit and refrigerate ingredients for one hour.  Remove from refrigerator and follow directions on your ice cream maker. Usually you will need to add the ice cream container to the bucket first, then start the machine. As the machine is running, then start to add the ice and ice cream salt.

*If you do not have a 5 quart freezer, you may have to scale the recipe back a bit, as this is more than some ice cream makers will hold.  This recipe is very rich, but VERY good.
