I will admit it. Food is pretty much my life!  I want to help families and convince them that you can make pretty much anything you want, from scratch, easily. Well one night, I dreamed about key lime pie ice cream. I got up, wrote down my dream and played around with the ingredients. Finally, I came up with what I considered to be Key Lime Pie Ice Cream Perfection! That's why this is called, (per one of my directors, Mark Campbell), "Dreamy" Key Lime Pie Ice Cream!

  • 3 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups half and half
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 to 2 cups key lime juice (I use 2 cups, but I like it tart, like the pie!)
  • graham cracker crumbs for garnish
  • lime slices for garnish

Scald the milk first over medium high heat, then remove from heat.  Add the sugar to the milk and stir well. Pour mixture into a large bowl, then add the sweetened condensed milk, heavy whipping cream, half and half and key lime juice.  Mix all together and pour into your ice cream freezer.  Refrigerate ingredients for at least one hour.  Remove from refrigerator and follow directions to your ice cream maker. Once ice cream is ready, serve with graham cracker crumbs and a lime wedge.
